Things I Really...

I'm going to create a new feature to my posts called, "Things I Really..." and it will consist of hopefully new and interesting material. Today, it's going to be "Things I Really Admire About People".. ok let's begin!

Things I really admire about people:

-well-written articles by journalists and reporters. I'm talking about the kind that can draw any reader into reading & finishing an article about the most obscure or unappealing topic. If they can make me smile while reading.. consider me smitten.
-people who take the time to pay attention to details and followup. FOLLOWUP is the most important and distinguishing trait a person can possess. It applies in building relations with people, your job, and boosting your credibility. Most people cannot return a call/text within a proper timeframe to save their life. Let me clarify this right now: Just because you return a call/text hours or days later does not mean you're a "super busy" or "important" person. No. It means you're fucking inconsiderate and you don't give two shits about me. How do I know this? Because I do that. Let's face it: you know when you don't return a call/text within 2 hours it's not because you're so fucking busy.. it's because that person isn't that important enough to you. (This excludes lost/misplaced phone and dead battery and hungover moments). A former supervisor of mine once told me that if you return a client's call within a quick space of time, you will be remembered for it.
-discipline. I don't have it so I like to surround myself with those who do possess this rare quality.
-open-minded people. If you can try and understand another person's situation or be open to vulnerability, you will 97% of the time come out of anything as a stronger & smarter person. Truth.
-those who can separate business from personal. This can apply to anything like religion, politics, etc. I'm a fuckin Democrat (I don't agree on everything we democrats supposedly preach), but I got friends who are Republicans and yeah I don't see eye-to-eye on a lot of shit. But you know what, in the end I like that we can put it aside and just be friends. What's important when choosing who you keep as friends, aren't their views on trivial topics, but their view on you. I'd rather much hang out with people who hate Obama, but respect me than hang out with assholes who talk shit about me behind my back.

I think I'll be doing another "Things I Really.." post soon :]

Can I Play With Your Gestapo Badge?

So, I woke up late this morning. I got to work on time, but I didn't get to jog at this nearby trail I'd been planning to do. That upset me a bit, but what cheers me up is when I get my grande nonfat latte with hazelnut syrup. DELICIOUS! I love drinking that while catching up on the news at nytimes.com and listening to some Bullet For My Valentine or Killswitch Engage... all at work. haha.

Anyways, I found this article "Weekend at War" about war re-enactments and I'm going to be completely honest--I loved reading it. Underneath this Asian-5'2-bitch-in-a-switch-and makeup loving-exterior, lives a nerdy girl in love with all things touristy and kitchy (cheesy, campy). Although I've never expressed a real interest in history or war, I REALLY want to watch a war re-enactment.. either WWII or the Civil War. I think it'll be educational and super entertaining. Sadly, all of them seem to take place in Pennsylvania or on the east coast somewhere. If you ever do get a chance to attend a re-enactment, please do so and tell me how it goes! Admission is free or no more than $5.

Long Overdue..

I don't think I ever really talked about my Valentine's Day. So this is my first completely single and "lonely" Valentine's Day in a long time. I did have a Valentine, though and yes I did get to spend it, sorta, with that person haha. But to be honest, I do sorta..kinda... fucking hate this shittyass holiday. There's so much hype behind it and on the actual day it's never like how you imagine it's going to be. So FUCK VALENTINE'S DAY. Below is my countdown to the day. I'm just glad the month is almost over. I can't wait for the spring time!

Some Thoughts

Just a random blog about stuff on my mind. I thought about filling out that "25 Random Things About Me" note that's been infecting Facebook for a couple of weeks.. but I opted not to cuz it's retarded. Instead, I'll list a few randoms about me here haha.

-I think soggy or broken up wet pieces of paper or cardboard are visually the grossest things in the world. It looks like barf!
-On freeways, I can't drive slower than 75 mph. I try.. and my impatience and need to go faster get to me.
-I have a small crescent shaped scar on my lower back from falling backwards into a metal bookshelf.
-My childhood dream was to be a doctor. Now at 22, I hope to be an event planner for a hotel or company.
-I tried out for cheerleading and almost made it.
-I've got one of the dirtiest minds around, but I'm super shy when it comes "showtime" in the bedroom.
-I'm a hardcore cynic and realist when it comes to love, but I still hope to get whisked away by "the one".
-My parents used to spank me with a bamboo stick and lock me in the dark laundry room with the "boogie man".
-When I was still in diapers as a toddler, I was fully aware that my shit stank. So when I had to go, I used to run into a bathroom/closet/bedroom, close the door, and not let anyone in til I was done. Then I'd walk out to my mom :]
-I had a dream Bruce Willis was my dad.
-My family and I used to attend rallies and protests for equality and justice for the citizens of Vietnam.
-I can't be a vegetarian by choice, but if you force me to only eat vegetables and tofu (prepared deliciously) I'll do it without complaining.

Okay, so that was fun. I wish I had remembered more quirky or truly random but fun facts about me.

Fall 09 Fashion "Look Forwards"

*photo is from Michael Kors Fall 09 www.michaelkors.com (notice the secretary with an edge look? loves it)

Over in the fashionable world of New York City, Fashion Week for Fall 09 has been going on and still is. After viewing a bunch of awesome designs by Zac Posen, Catharine Maladrino, Michael Kors, Richie Rich... I've determined some notable things you should look forward to if you haven't already noticed these trends.

Look forward to:
-more spring colors, florals and the neon trend to continue but perhaps in a more muted tone or in prettier shades like fuschia
-the rocker/grunge look; as in heavier smokier eyeshadows around the eyes, and "teased/ I don't give a fuck/ the morning after too much fun" hair to dominate
-long dresses to make you feel like a princess

It seems like it's less about the fall season and being wrapped up in dark colors, but a continuation and encouragement of being pretty and hot. As with all fashion, runway is hard to duplicate the realway... thus, tone it down by a couple of notches.

P.S. If you're a fan of pink and girly, check out the Barbie Runway Show at Fashion Week either on Barbie's Facebook page or on Youtube.

Hello Kitty & MAC Makeup

So MAC Cosmetics has released a limited edition Hello Kitty inspired collection... and I LOVE IT. I've purchased in total 6 things: 1 lipgloss, 3 lipsticks, 2 tinted lip balms. Everything was about $14 each which is pretty decently priced. I passed on buying the eyeshadow palettes because in person the colors didn't wow me and I'm positive I would've fucked up on the application of it without the aid of a makeup artist. I HIGHLY recommend trying on the stuff before purchasing it because it's very easy to get carried away and want to purchase everything, but not everything looks cute on everyone.

I pretty much kept all my purchases within the pink color spectrum.

Lipstick: Cute-ster (light cute shell pink), Big Bow (neon hot pink with blue/purple undertones), Strayin (hot pink with a more matte finish)

Lipglass: Mimmy (pretty pink/peach color)

Lip balm: Pink Fish (pretty light pink, but when applied heavily can look frosty pink), Popster (hot berry pink/red)

My Personal Style & Tips on Finding Yours

If it wasn't apparent already, I love shopping and dressing up every chance I can get. As you can see, Britney Spears, the performer not so much the person, is one of my models of inspiration when it comes to attitude. As for looks I like to combine a bit of "Pussycat Doll," with "upper eastside meets downtown Manhattan New Yorker" and to top it all off a dash of "San Diego easyliving." If that wasn't clear enough, then imagine Gossip Girl gone skanky at the beach haha.

Now, if you don't really have an idea as what to call your style or in need of improving it.. I have some tips to help you out which I discovered for myself while in college.

1. ALWAYS be comfortable with yourself. Never second guess how awesome you already look without the extras (makeup, hair, clothes, compliments from friends).
2. If you like how something looks on someone else, be brave and go out and get it for yourself! Let that look or whatever it is inspire you to get something similar or make it your own by getting a less extreme or cuter version.
3. No matter who you are, you can wear whatever you want and look however you want. NEVER let anyone's opinions make your decision. Example: Person A: I really like that shirt! Person B: Dude, that brand is only worn by bros/skanks/nerds/etc. Person A: But it looks good on ME so fuck off.
4. Be FEARLESS. Sometimes looking good involves change. Don't be afraid of change! Plus, clothes can always be returned/ placed in the back of your closet; and hair can always grow back.
5. If all else fails, befriend someone who has a sense of style who can help you realize your inner hotness. Seriously. Anyone who wants to go shopping, call/text/im/facebook/myspace me! I'll gladly go shopping with you and help you figure out the best colors, shapes, and stores to get your look.

Feb. 6- Feb. 8 Weekend Update

Friday
I saw the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" which turned out surprisingly funny and cute. There was a pretty reputable cast, and the movie could relate to both females and males. At times the main character reminded me of myself when I first started dating post-college (the whole "should I call now? what about NOW?" haha). I highly recommend going out and seeing the movie with your friends or your significant other for some laughs if you haven't already.

After the movie, I was caught in a horrible rainstorm and was drenched in a matter of 3 seconds from head to toe. Gross. I love the rain from inside my warm comfortable room and under my bedsheets.

Saturday
Had work during the day, and at night just hung out with a friend and watched Beer Fest. Yeah that movie does bring the laughs and I'm ashamed to say I just finally watched it now. However, I don't think I could ever chug beer anymore. Maybe.. MAYBE Coors Light or something, but I think my chugging days are over.

Sunday
I completely vegged out! I literally did not wake up or get out of bed until 3pm-ish.. and then I didn't leave the house until 4:30pm. I only left to go to Michael's crafts store and buy food. The only thing I ended up getting at Michael's was a St. Patrick's Day bowtie! Yuuup I'm SO ready for St. Patty's Day already haha. At night, I did nothing except lay in bed and re-discover my love for Jack Johnson.

I'm secretly glad that it's been raining so hard because: a) that means snow in the mountains! and b) it kinda forces me to stay home and not make plans with anyone which is what I need for myself. I really do need "buu time" :)
you ever have those nights or moments... everything hurts? sometimes you want something so bad, and the smallest thing will crush your hope? or when you do something nice and super thoughtful and all you wanted was a simple "thank you" but you never got it?

yeah.. that feeling is washing all over me right now.

Big Update Time

Last weekend I:

-went to Miami Grill at UTC Mall (this was my second time being there and it's not the most authentic Cuban restaurant around but since this is La Jolla/San Diego it'll have to do. I haven't had the entrees but the sandwiches are yummy and they're priced around $9-$11. don't get the "cuban fried rice" SO NOT WORTH IT)
-ventured over to the North Park area for dinner at Vagabond and drinks at Blue Foot bar. the food at Vagabond was good, but I made the mistake of ordering the Salmon with Coconut Lemongrass dish. The salmon and mussels and clams were awesome, but they were swimming in a creamy broth of coconut lemongrass soup. It was waaay too rich for me. The Blue Foot bar was cool, the music was kind of eclectic, and it definitely gets crowded as the night progresses. Unfortunately, I had way too much to drink (3 Long Island Ice Teas and 3/4 of a pint of some pale ale that resembled more of an Indian Pale Ale) and I don't remember much afterwards. All I know is that I blacked out and barfed up my dinner (this is where that creamy broth KILLED ME) at some point. The hangover was bad the next morning but only lasted like 3-4 hours haha
-SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!! Congrats to the Steelers! Went over to casa de Leo, Kelvin, and Curtis for the potluck bash. Had a great time there.
-dinner at Miyabi's which is like a Benihana type of restaurant. it was good.
-saw the movie "New in Town". total chick flick and it had its moments, but I don't recommend going out of your way to watch it. i thought it was going to be cuter.

Tuesday, got dinner at PB Sushi. Took a bunch of saki shots and had some good sushi. The service was a bit lacking and kind of overpriced for what it was.

Wednesday, I called in sick because I just did not feel good. I really needed rest, but I didn't want to be completely unproductive. Thus, I finished doing my bedding laundry, drove over to PB to look for boots, got a haircut, and then met up with a friend for dinner at Red Robin. I LOVE THEIR BURGERS! So these are pics of stuff I wanted to share from Wednesday.

These trees look pretty, right? Well, I think the scent the flowers give off makes me think of the smell of menstruation. GROSS I KNOW. At my high school, we used to have these trees EVERYWHERE and so every winter/spring when they would be in bloom, I swore the school would just smell like period. Yes, no matter how clean you are, if you're a girl, you know what I'm talking about when I refer to the smell of menstruation. Anyways, these were trees in the UTC mall parking lot near Macy's and Red Robin.

These two pics are of Pacific Beach. Look at how beautiful and clear the sky looks! Who would've thought that the next day it would be cold, wet, and miserable? This is why I love San Diego--their beaches are pretty amazing.

Well, I know it was a big entry, but I just wanted to share my adventures before I forgot all about them.

PS- IF YOU CLICK ON THE PICS, YOU GET A BIGGER/BETTER VIEW OF THEM!

New Haircut for 2009

Yes.. I have a new haircut. I might leak images of the new look online soon, but for now less than 5 people have seen it. I love that I look different but I'm not completely head over heels in love with the look yet. I still have to get used to my *gasp* bangs and the prep and maintenance of my hair. Having a more "stylish" look definitely means more time and upkeep then just the usual long, layered hairdo.

My hair stylist is Elizabeth Stoltz and she's the best! She's a total sweetheart, knows what the fuck she's doing, and she's a hottie :) Also, she charges a flat rate of $40 for womens cuts. If anyone's interested, let me know!

My Thoughts on Valentine's Day

I like the holiday. There. I said it. Do I enjoy celebrating it? Yeah, sure.... I love being alone and browsing 1800flowers.com to look for a nice bouquet of flowers to send myself.

But in all honesty, if you're in a relationship with someone, I consider this holiday to be another Christmas or birthday... just another day for someone to celebrate your awesomeness haha. Yeah it puts unnecessary pressure on people to buy a gift that best represents their affection, which almost always translates into spending more money on a gift that will probably wilt on you or break your wallet. If you ask me though, yes it's nice to get a gift...but all I really want is for February 14th to feel different from any other day.

So if you're single and without a Valentine.. then yes, FUCK VALENTINE'S DAY! Go out and treat yourself to something nice. If you have a Valentine, then go celebrate your luck.

P.S. I secretly love browsing 1800flowers.com to look at their bouquets. Roses and lilies are my favorite flowers <333 I'm such a loser.
